7th Grade

Standard

Next year I will be in 7th grade. Next year all of my friends from 5th and 6th grade are going to Mc Dowell, but I’m not I am going to Thomas Ewing in Lancaster Ohio. I am not really looking forward to it because all of my best friends are going to Mc Dowell. I will really miss everyone. I promise I will come back to visit! The only other thing I am not looking forward to is getting up really early. I know like everybody that goes to Thomas Ewing because I lived in Lancaster for 10 1/2 years, I think that’s a long enough time to get to know people. But 2 years is also a lot and that’s how long I went to Laurelville Elementary, I know everyone by heart and a lot of the people are like family to me so that’s going to make it very hard to leave, also going through ups and downs with everyone is going to make it hard because we have all been through everything together. My cousin and I have been talking about going to the same school since 3rd grade but after 4th grade I moved to Laurelville now in 7th grade we get our wish, but  I’m not so thrilled, but at the same time I am.

Memory With My Family…

Standard

This is a project for The Reading Workshop class, with Mr. McGuire.

This is my memoir of when I was with my aunt, uncle cousin, and sister in Erie Pennsylvania on our way back to Ohio on a wet stormy night. What a coincident. The story takes place around 8:30pm. we were i n the car and what do you know right when we get in to the middle of nowhere we end up running out of gas and running on empty for the rest of the 3min. later the car stops and we have no gas. Well there are no gas stations for 57miles and my sister desided that when we were at the last rest stop she wasn’t going to go pee so what do you know she has to pee at the worst possible time. My aunt blames my sister having to pee on me and I was thinking ” SHUT UP STUPID AND THINK ABOUT HOW IN THE HECK THIS COULD BE MY FAULT SHE IS YOUR FLIPPEN RESPONSIBILITY!!!!”, but I didn’t actually say that because that would be very mean and childish (like her). I got out of the car, witch was parked on the side of the road and stood in the rain crying for about 15-20 mins. and while I was standing outside my aunt yelled at me and told me to get my butt in the car, she told me that I was an ungrateful stupid little mischief and that my sister peeing her pants was all of my fault!! I really didn’t know how much longer I could go without yelling? The problem was finally solved after my aunt and sister fell asleep and a tow truck passing us stopped and helped us. The main lesson I learned was don’t blame other people for your actions!

Millions Of Miles Away…

Millions of miles away. Some people think that millions miles away is a friend of a long lost family member, but millions miles away is the stars and lots of planets and more universes! One thing I have always wanted to learn about is outer space. Here is a picture of what I want to see in person.

D.A.R.E. Essay

Standard

In D.A.R.E. with Deputy Thomas I have learned a lot like two meanings for D.A.R.E. and how many people die each year from tobacco causes, marijuana, and alcohol. I also learned how and why people usually start smoking and using tobacco, drinking, and smoking marijuana. In D.A.R.E. I also learned what it’s like to be under the influence of alcohol. We did some skits on how peer pressure can make it hard to stay clean, and now I’m going to explain them.

D.A.R.E. has two meanings what it stands for and what it means, D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, D.A.R.E. means Define Assess Respond Evaluate.

Did you know that each year over 400,000 people die from tobacco causes like smoking and chewing. Also 7% of 8th graders smoke! All though 7% doesn’t sound like a lot it’s still not great more and more people are leaning towards smoking and drugs for money once you start smoking it is very hard to stop because there is this addicting substance called nicotine, which makes it hard to stop smoking! Tobacco can cause more colds and upper respiratory problems, Smoking is the #1 cause of lung cancer, there are more than 200 known poisons in tobacco, smoking can cause yellowing to the teeth and smelly breath, if you play sports and smoke you could suffer from shortness of breath and dizziness, and last but not least it is illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone under the age of 18. People who smoke usually started when they were younger because of peer pressure and depression , Peer pressure is when someone your age is trying to get you to smoke, do drugs, and/or drink.

Marijuana are illegal in the U.S. but a lot of people smoke  it because it is illegal, people also sell it and grow it to earn money and so that the don’t have to buy it from someone else. There is more tar in marijuana than in tobacco. Marijuana is a HUGE risk of cancer, colds and upper respiratory problems, breathing problems, brain and body problems, memory loss, inability to concentrate, and can be addictive. Marijuana contains  50% to 70% more of some cancer causing chemicals than tobacco smoke.

Drinking alcohol is illegal under the age of 21. 15% of 8th graders drink alcohol products. It is not illegal to advertise for alcohol products. One beer has as much alcohol as a glass of wine. Alcohol can hurt you even if you not the one drinking, it can hurt someone else by maybe the person who is drinking wrecks a car because they are drunk the person they hit, if they hit a person could have died because of another persons actions. Drinking large amounts of alcohol can lead to a coma or cause death. School performance can be affected by alcohol. Mixing alcohol with medication is not healthy at all!!!!! Alcohol can slow down central brain nerves.

In D.A.R.E. Deputy Thomas brought in some D.U.I. goggles it was fun to try to walk strait on the line and catch the tennis ball, it was also very hard!!!!!

When we did skits. We got paired up and we got to come up with our own skits and preform them in front of the class. It was a blast!!!!!!

I pledge to never do any of this.

Thank you Deputy Thomas!

This is all of the stuff that I learned in D.A.R.E.!

I got my picture from this site http://www.eureka.mo.us/departments/police/programs/d-a-r-e-program/ .

What Has Made Me A Successful Sixth Grader Is…

Standard

What has made me successful in 6th grade is really getting to know everybody. Also getting to be comfortable helps me learn better and pay more attention. What I mean is I work better when I am around people I know and when I am familiar with my surroundings. Having great teachers helps because they make sure you understand what you are doing so that you can do your absolute best!

Am I Ready For The OAA?…

Standard

I think that I am ready for the test. Some advise I have for a 6th grader is look over the questions before you read the passage because it helps you know what you are looking for in the passage. Plug your ears while you whisper the words of the passage to yourself, but it will probably only help you out if it helps you to hear yourself when you read. Take all of the time that you have on the OAA because you have a better chance of getting a higher score if you use any time you have left to check over the test repeatedly.

DreamHouse Kings Series…

Standard

As one of my class projects in The Reading Workshop I have to write a blog post about some of the problems the Main Character is having, and how the problems make the book interesting.

I have already read these books called The DreamHouse Kings series, but I figured that I would write about them also because they are really good, and really interesting to write about. So I am going to give a few examples about the main character in the books and some of the problems the main character has.

In the books the main character is David and his #1 problem is that his mom has been kidnapped, that makes the books way more interesting because it shows how important his family is to him and that he will do pretty much anything to try and keep his family together(I think that David is a great role model).

What the assembly ment to me…

Standard

This is part or a comment for The Reading Workshop.

What motivates me is my mom. My mom motivates me because when I look at her I think about how much she has been through, and how she still gets up knowing that there is always tomorrow.

What makes me like I am is what I have been through and knowing I could have gotten it way worse than I did, knowing how lucky I am to have had it how I did and not worse.

Who do I follow? I follow my mom and dad because now that they are not together any more I watch them struggle but still make it through the days.

What did the assembly mean to me? Well it meant a lot to me seeing how Jim Basketball Jones turned out and what he went through, seeing that he knew when the going gets tough you keep going,  never give up.
